Every time they feel its a bad play they all yell......there must have been allot of bad plays so far as they don't sound very happy.

We have been on a couple of tours while we are here the first one being the graveyard tour.....was really hoping to see a Jazz funeral but none were happening. The graves are built up not dug down and the process of family tombs was really interesting.
This is the grave of the Voodoo Queen and these are offerings left by visitors.
In the afternoon we went on a horse and buggy tour of the Garden district to see all the old mansions.

Yes these are private homes and they all seem to have "Carriage House's" attached that the teenagers often move into or sometimes they are rented out....be rather cool to live in one of them. Many Hollywood stars own houses here as its a quieter life here for them and as long as they stay away from Bourbon Street they are not hassled by the locals

It was absolutely freezing and I must admit I thought it would be a bit warmer here as we are right o the Gulf of Mexico. The only bad thing here is there is no HOT water in this hotel and its just luke warm so with the really cold weather I cant wait for a long hot shower when we get to Dallas tomorrow night.

We are staying in the French Quarter of New Orleans and we are only one block from Bourbon Street and we have really been having fun and last night we were lucky enough to be here for Pardi Gras which is a smaller version than Mardi Gras. It was great to see the floats go by and they through strings of beads to the crowds to try and catch.....I caught about 20 or so and they will be great to add to my dress up box for the Grand Kids.

We have done lots of shopping and have plenty to show for the trip. Tomorrow we head out to Dallas and we are flying out in 2 days.............so sad it has come to an end........

When we fly out we have requested an upgrade to Business class so please everyone cross your fingers and toes so that we get granted the seats.........
Today we drove over Lake Pontchartrain via the Causeway and it is the longest bridge about 28 miles long from memory....sort of weird to just drive out into the wide blue yonder...............Janhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505104863079112703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21532170.post-61286848447039797392012-01-10T00:02:00.001+09:302012-01-10T02:46:49.685+09:30Off to JacksonvilleWe left Louisville very early....8am....one cold and frosty morning after scraping the ice off the windscreen and headed down to Cave City just near Bowling Green Ky. There was a light snow laying on the ground and it was very pretty but cold in the wind.
We went to see 2 caves in an area that has the largest cave system in the world.....of course we didn't have time to see much of it but what we saw was beautiful.

That night we stayed in a Wigwam and near froze to death. I placed all the blankets from the 2nd bed in the room onto our bed and I wore my thermals..... top and bottom..... and my Grannie Flannie's and my warm sox.

The next day we headed down through Tennessee and we kept seeing these signs for Ruby Falls over a hundred mile stretch. We also saw a sign for a Armory so we stopped in there so Grant could feel the testosterone flow through his veins.

It is a lot warmer in Jacksonville and we have bee down to St Augustine for some shopping and I think it is a great place with shops that sell things you can't get anywhere else. Grant has bought a Panama Hat the same style that Sean Connery wore in one of his movies.

We drove to Louisville (Luuuvllll) and as Grant had been feeling unwell I drove for a while. We arrived at Frankie's (Toms other half sister's house) and all of the family were there and we celebrated our second Christmas. It was a great day and I had never seen so many presents.

We all had a lot of laughs and we opened presents from 2pm through to about 8pm that night. The next day we went for a drive around Louisville and headed over to a consignment store (sells 2nd hand clothing) and it was a high end store. Grant bought me a genuine grey fox fur coat for my anniversary and it is beautiful and warm. Now I can truely say "I am a Foxy Lady" haha,,,, We went to an old factory that is converted to artists studios and are rented out so the artists can work on their craft and also make sales to the public. There was an interesting one where the person makes guitars.

Grant, being Grant was always getting seperated from the rest of us as it was a maze of corridors and alleys.

Janice had the ham picked out for Christmas dinner and needed to take it to one of the butchers in town to get sliced...well the ham was 34 lbs which is just under 15.5 kg and really big.....the guy at the butcher said leave it her and we will get it done.....Janice wanted to take it and bring it back when they would be doing it and the guy said no leave it or we wont be able to do it before Christmas. Janice said she wasn't happy about leaving a home cured country ham but the guy insisted and said they would look after it.
The next day we get a call that it is ready to be picked up and so we get changed and drive to town it took about 3/4 hour and when we got there they said that 1/2 hour previously that a lady with the same surname had picked it up............Janice was totally devestated to say the least. After much discussion we left the shop with the understanding that this was not over yet.

The next afternoon they called and said they had tracked down the lady and got the ham back and we could pick it up.......which we did .....immediately.....
We all will really enjoy that ham on christmas day.
Well here we are in the land of bright lights and traffic. We arrived at 6.30 am and must say that I hope never to catch the flight again that goes via Auckland.....just too tiring. Got through customs and immigration very fast and found our shuttle bus waiting. We took off with a half full bus then we realized that the bus driver had just circled around and arrived back where he picked us up from and waited for a couple more people to arrive. When all the seats were filled we headed out to Santa Monica. The hotel is right by the pier and easy walking to the shops. The only thing about the shops in Santa Monica is that they are the big name shops and as I am hoping for some cheaper than Australia type of shopping we will wait till we get to Nashville..

Yesterday we did a bus tour of LA. They picked us up at the hotel and off we drove and around the block we went and arrived right back where we started .......twice..... Whats with that???
I am very glad we did the tour because we now know that we prefer to find our own way around the tourist sights. Some things it was a case of \'blink and you miss it\' and other times it was \' I would love to show you that but the tour busses are not allowed to go there anymore\'.

We go to Nashville today and once again I can say I am very glad to be leaving LA. Sort of a shame that I feel so strongly about the city of my birth. Just a country girl at heart.Janhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505104863079112703noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21532170.post-748816174471003062011-12-16T04:41:00.001+09:302011-12-16T04:41:11.462+09:30The Journey BeginsWe are on our way. Got up at the totally ungodly hour of 4 am after a very short night sleep. We were getting the elevator downstairs at the hotel and the lift doors closed very quickly and they grabbed Grant and for a short time, thankfully, they kept closing. I started to have visions of a squashed Grant being ripped apart by the lift. Anyway it finally let go and we got to the airport. Checked in and these days at the check- in if you are traveling on two passports and one is the US one and your traveling to the USA, that\'s the one you have to show not theAustralian one as they start their screening process for entry into the States even before you board your flight. Totally messed up the lady at check-in as I of course had to give her the wrong passport. She wasn\'t very happy with me.. Got to go and get flight.....more laterJanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505104863079112703noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21532170.post-56927544189188380912009-08-17T08:38:00.002+09:302009-08-17T08:51:21.967+09:30A Day on the Adelaide River, Northern TerritoryFor those of my family and friends who occassionally check to see if I have made any new entries, here is one from yesterday. On the way we will drive by the house that I lived in as a newborn.

I have tried numerous times to add a photo to this entry but for some reason known only to the blog world it is not doing any for me tonight.Janhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09505104863079112703noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21532170.post-62329282926004556032007-09-25T04:28:00.001+09:302007-09-25T05:34:16.666+09:30Tahoe and Beyond During the night it started to rain, usually that means its not going to be too cold, but not at Lake Tahoe and it was just above freezing and the temperature was 20deg. below normal. Being set up for summer, we just about froze and during the night I had put on sox, tracky daks, and my hoodie, and I was still cold. We just about froze to death as we are high up into the mountains, and we really are not set up for cold weather. We are having a day off driving today to sight see, but its a miserable day, so it will be indoor sightseeing.

We have seen some beautiful scenery in the last few days. With those last few photos I had previously posted, they were just the tip of the iceberg. It becomes sensory overload after a while.

The photo of me out on the rock was real, i had to climb down..fairly easy if a bit slippery...and then just walk out onto a rock that had at least a 1000 ft drop on 3 sides, then climb back up...quite difficult due to it being slippery. Grant elected to be the photographer and stay WAY back.

In this photo he got me to wriggle backwards and then lean back.. I told him to make sure I wasn't too close....good thing he likes having me around.

After we left the Grand Canyon we decided to drive to Las Vegas for the night as it would keep us ahead of schedule....To get to Vegas we wanted to drive Highway 93 and we kept seeing signs that no trucks or commercial vehicles were to take that Route as Hoover Dam is Under Construction. We just kept hoping that it wouldn't mean us and of course it didn't.

That's where the Homeland Security was there to inspect vehicles. We had to open the outside storage and allow them to inspect inside the van too.
The Dam is a Huge Tourist attraction in itself and they are creating it in a way that it looks like it belongs there and is not some crass eyesore. We were really impressed.
While I was in the gift shop buying a magnet the guy who owns it is a Queenland boy and he slipped quickly in to his Aussie accent while talking to me.

We then headed through Boulder, the only Nevada City that has a No Gambling Law and on to Vegas......the KOA we were planning to stay at was no longer there.. so we were right in the middle of The Strip and in our big rig looking for an RV Park...Thank God for Percy...that's the name of our GPS, he found us a very nice place close by called the Oasis RV Resort.

Next morning we started out on a sunny day and went into the desert, dressed for a hot day...well it rained all the way and got colder and colder.

We both agreed that if there was one state that we would NOT want to live in over here it would be Nevada... It was still beautiful but just a more direct way to travel.

Arrived at Aunt Marguarite's mid afternoon and just felt wonderful to arrive where I had spent so much time when I was 20 years old...John Fletcher arrived and he is just the same as he was back then, Harriet, Joseph, Rob and Julie Ann...then came Steve, Linda and Jay...Some I knew, some I didn't and some had not even been born when I was last here

During the day we went all around New Albany and it has changed allot since I was last here as the now have Kentucky Fried, Taco Bell and a WallMart.

John Fletcher took me to the New Albany Cemetery to see some more ancestors graves and also some extra special family member who I was close too.

Then we went back to the house and sat around and told stories about when we were young and had a really good laugh as Aunt Marguarite hadn't heard most of them. she really enjoyed it and so did we.

Saturday night we went out for supper to a great new restaurant that had a buffet that had all good southern food such as fried catfish, frogs legs, chicken, turnip greens, creamed corn(not as good as mine), peach cobbler and iced tea...well that's pretty much what I ate. Just as we were driving buy the church, the bolt that holds the spare tire to the underside of the truck, snapped in half and the spare dropped onto the road with a loud bang. To the 105 people who responded I will apologise to those who I have not responded to and to those who left offensive messages, bless your hearts. To those who contributed intelligent and thought provoking responses, this is not really one of those Blogs and I suggest that you reply to either the New York Post ( for those in the USA), or The Australian for those in Australia.

So lets get on with it.

READERS RESPONSES

One avid reader responded with corrections to my special correspondence tag "G Day Ya oorl" and I have begrudgingly accepted that it should the revised "G'Day Y'All. So from now on that's is what I will call my column. Thank you Larry for your in put Bless your heart.

The difference between a hissy fit and conniption fit is that the hissy fit is for sheilers and the conniption fit is performed by bokes. I will not accept any more correspondence on this one or I will have one.

Contrary to all those who thought there actually is a difference in the way water goes down the plug, guess what ? your wrong. In both hemisheres they go down either clockwise or anti clockwise (the opposite to clockwise for the special lady who did not know what that was). If you want to check for yourselves then go to "Myth Busters".

To those who have expressed ignorance to who Tony "Stacka" Stanford is I will enlighten you. He is a very good friend who I regard as "SPECIAL". He is over 50 and looks like Paul Hogan with out a face lift. I will accept that the USA brothers and sisters would not know him but to have my own "kin" ( that's family for the unknowing) not To know who he is is a little disconcerting.

TRAVEL INFO FOR NON USA TRAVELLERS

I wont repeat the excellent work of our editor, bless her heart but I will add some insightfull observations of my own.

Crickets

Now these little noisy critters are every where and are noisy during the day as opposed to the Australian crickets which are active at night.

Trees

In the states and counties that we have been to so far the trees appear greener and are generally fuller and taller than what we are used to. This makes for pleasant driving.

Skunks

Skunks are definitely something to avoid. Some folk hunt and eat squirrels, deer, possum and just about anything else that comes out of the woods but you would have to be brain dead to even shoot a skunk as it is a total waste of ammunition. Ones that have been struck by cars leave a discernible after taste as you pass them and even the crows and other carrion leave them to the ants.

Country Music

I am really enjoying the country music that is coming out of nearly every radio station in the country. As most of these stations are FM we have to change the station about every 10 miles. Consequently we have heard and now know the words to "She's my Fire Cracker" and "All my Exes live in Texas now I hang my hat in Tennessee." and numerous other great hits.

Van Info

In the USA they don't have small caravans as we know them. The vehicles on the roads and in the parks we are staying at are monsters. I saw one RV the size of a bus which must have been 45ft long towing a boat longer that itself. This was surprising enough but the driver and his wife must have been over 70.

Fuel consumption is something else. The RV we have, which is a small one at 27ft , has a 7.4ltr motor and gets 7.5 miles per gallon. It has a 38 gallon tank and luckily the fuel cost is way down on what we are used to. The cost is usually $2.80 per gallon compared to our $1.40 per litre. This equates to about A$6.00 per gallon.

As I have been unable to submit my material concerning the reunion on time the editor has told me to get off her Blog.
